This is not just 'another good metal album', its probably one of the best albums in the history of metal, if not the best one, and of course one of the best albums ever.
Sure, death metal in general its not something for everyone, but we are here to see why this is so good, not enjoyable for everyone, that work is for pop and that doesn't make this album worse in any way. I think the best achievement this album has made (besides being perfect in itself) is to conserve its original opeth roots and even improve them to a point that I'm 100% sure that there is something for everyone here. Every song is memorable/has something memorable, and I'm sure that this is is a hard thing to do. Another good think is the production, it has improved A LOT since its made by Steven Wilson, previous Opeth works sounded good, but kinda amateur I guess, at least compared to this. This album its just perfection, it doesn't have anything bad, everything is on its point perfectly made, from its clean singing and acoustic guitars to pure death metal and screams. If I'm honest, this was a hard album for me to listen, I came from thrash metal to death metal not long ago, this was one of my first death metal albums to listen (not the first) and sure it was hard, at the beginning I did not understand the album, but once I did and I started enjoying it more and more I just found here one of the best musical jems that will remain in my brain until my last days.
